Enriching community through the theatrical arts

Our Programs

dramaworks is a non-profit organization offering a safe space for individuals of all ages to learn, grow, and be entertained. Our youth programming helps young people build self-confidence and develop important life skills while our community theatre encourages self-discovery and lifelong learning.

About Us

dramaworks is all about the love of theatre and the community!  We are a creative outlet for all ages, located in the beautiful Northern California town of Quincy. dramaworks is a 501(c)(3) corporation started in 2000 by Earl Thompson and Edie O’Connor.

Our Mission

dramaworks’ mission is to promote the enjoyment of theatre arts, facilitate children’s and community theatre programs, and utilize our venue as an educational path to reduce societal barriers and improve the lives of rural families and children.

Racial Equity Statement

dramaworks West End Theatre is committed to racial equity and incorporating the values of diversity, inclusion and equity in our work.

Through the lens of racial equity and diversity we recognize that the rural families we serve, and seek to improve the lives of, consist of individuals who have been historically underrepresented based on race, ethnicity, age, ability, sexual orientation, gender, socioeconomic status, geography, citizenship status, and religion.

  • We affirm that ALL people and their individual and collective human experience can and should be celebrated through the medium of theatrical art as a way to honor, respect, and understand our humanity.
  • We recognize that systemic racism, discrimination and inequality exist in our community. We condemn these injustices, and affirm that we will strive to dismantle these injustices both internally among our board, staff and volunteers, and externally in our programing, events and productions offered to our community.
  • We recognize that the land our organization physically resides on, is the traditional land of the Mountain Maidu people. We acknowledge, respect and honor the indigenous peoples and native stewards of this land.
  • We believe that artistic and cultural activities are an essential component for healthy, vibrant communities. Artists, their art, and the artistic process can play a unique role in witnessing, demonstrating and providing inspiration to resolve societal inequity and injustice.
  • Through the platform of theatre, stories of our human experience come to life in an impactful way. Theatrical art and advocacy for change have a complementary relationship. We pledge to use our art form to work for positive, inclusive, and equitable change in our community.

We acknowledge that diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice must be core values of our organization. Maintaining these values is an ongoing process of learning and change. We are committed to upholding and amplifying the voices, ideas and processes needed to create a more just and equitable community and world.

"Theatre is like food for children, they need it to flourish."

Edie is one of the founders of dramaworks. Edie and Earl Thompson started producing plays together in the early 1990s and dramaworks was born as a not-for-profit corporation in the year 2000. Edie produces, directs and acts as part of the rich local amateur theatre community in rural Plumas County California.

Danielle is currently dramaworks Magic Beanstalk Players Program Director. She has worn many hats at the theatre for many years including Executive Director, drama teacher, theatre manager, actor, director, graphic designer and all around biggest theatre fan. Danielle has been a musical theatre lover her whole life, and has been in 40+ plays. When she’s not playing the role of theatre enthusiast, she plays the roles of school nurse, mother and wife.

Lynnette became a part of our theatre family in 2009 when her daughter joined the Magic Beanstalk Players program. Lynnette has been on stage in numerous dramaworks’ productions, as well as been behind the scenes in many capacities. She enjoys acting, directing, creating costumes and props, and coordinating volunteers and back stage production crews. Lynnette’s current role is costume and prop coordinator for The Magic Beanstalk Players and assistant costume coordinator for dramaworks.

Tina became a part of the dramaworks’ team when she saw that she could add a bit of her two loves in life to the program: art and teaching. Tina always knew she’d be a teacher and began her career with 9 years of teaching first graders in the Sacramento area before starting her family. Since then, she has homeschooled her two sons, taught and developed curriculum for after-school engineering and art programs, and worked as a professional artist. Tina serves as set designer and art teacher for the Magic Beanstalk Players program, and loves to get the young actors and actresses involved in adding spectacular visual elements to their performances.
